The movements of ocean currents effect sea ice over the long and short term. Currents can transport the ice to warmer locations where they will melt at a more rapid speed.
The Atlantic Meridonal Overturning is an ocean current that has been continuous for generations. Recently it has been recorded as weakening. This is predicted to continue as more greenhouse game is released into the atmosphere, melting sea ice, and increasing salinity.
